Airfix

Oldest and iconic manufacturer of scale plastic model kits in the UK. Following World War II, Kove introduced the first commercial plastic injection-molding machine to the UK in 1947. In 1949, the Massey Ferguson tractor company commissioned Airfix to build a pre-assembled plastic promotional model of their TE20 tractor. To lower costs, Airfix produced the tractor in unassembled pieces. Sold in kit form via Woolworths retail stores for cheap pocket money prices, it became an overnight sensation. Airfix declared bankruptcy in 1981, cycling through various parent companies (such as Palitoy and Humbrol). In 2006, the brand was purchased by the British toy giant Hornby Hobbies, which still actively manufactures and distributes scale models under the Airfix name today
